Orissa Chess Ad-hoc Committee today announced its domestic calendar after the conclusion of a state-level conference at Youth Hostel, Puri. Committee officials said that the All India Chess Federation has allotted two major National championships to the state this year.
According to the calendar finalise in the conference, Kalinga Chess Academy would host the National Women’s Premier Championship from October 16 to 25. Rourkela Steel Plant has showed interest to organise the National Junior (u-19) Championship from September 30 to October 9.
Besides the two National event, the second edition of International Open GM tournament would be conducted from May 21 to 31 here by newly formed Star Chess School. Four rating tournaments will also be hosted during the year by Kallinga Chess Academy, Khordha Dist Chess Association, Balasore Chess Association and Cuttack District Chess Association.
The Ad-hoc Committee allotted 10 state selection tournaments to different district associations, academies and clubs. Around 60 representatives from 20 districts took part in the conference. Fifteen players and officials were felicitated on the occasion for achieving success at national and international levels.
State selection tournaments: State Under-7 (Ganjam, September), U-9 Khordha, July), U-11 (Balasore, March), U-13 (Knight Chess Club, Jajpur, May), U-15 (Angul, July), U-17 (Boudh, September), U-19 (K C Club, Nayagarh, August), U-25 (Sundergarh, August), Senior men (Koshal Chess Academy, Sambalpur), Premier Women (Jharsuguda, June).
